Final Blog of the Semester! Goodbye 435!

Monday was a very interesting way to see multiple different technologies. Being able to learn about all of them in such a short amount of time was a great way to compare some of the new device and new products coming soon to market. At the same time, watching the "tweet board" if I had missed a station that seemed to catch my eye I was able to go and talk to that person. I think the "tweet board" was a helpful way to stay connected and learn more about other stations before going and seeing what they had to offer. In a non-offensive way not all the technologies were of interest to me, and in the limited amount of time, I was able to visit the ones that I was most interested in because of the "tweet board".

I have not done my poster presentation yet, but after Monday I am actually excited to go! I think it will be fun! I have put a lot of work into my posters and I hope that my effort shows! I am excited to see the feedback!

On a final sad note, this will probably be my last blog. Blogging has been an interesting adventure for me. I have never done anything like this before, I can understand why many people blog, in the beginning of the class I felt it was a useless tool. Today, I feel it is useful and many people can benefit from it. However, I do not feel that at this time in my life, I do not have the spare time to continue on and keep up with a personal blog. I do however feel that I will look at personal blogs with a new outlook and not pass them by as a pointless, useless tool.

Goodbye Com 435!!!

Even the homeless can benefit from Technology

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/12/01/horvath.homeless.website/index.html

This is a website of a man who once lived on the streets and was homeless. This man needed to find a way to make living. He needed to do something to pick himself back up, and he used technology for this purpose. He use a camera and video taped the homeless community and placed it on the internet. He was an activist for the homeless inspiring people to help the homeless. This man Mark Horvath used footage on social networking site. He is now a well known inspiring man. Technology can help anyone and everyone.

Anti-Fraud E-Ink Credit Cards

In an earlier post I spoke about my debt card number being stolen and used for a couple hundreds of dollars! It was so depressing and so upsetting. Well as I was surfing the web I found this site that has a new credit/debt card protection that is being worked on. It has not been brought to market but it is being worked on. Its call an Anti0fraud cred card w E-Ink Display. I did some further research with I am finding there isn't much information about this product yet, but once it comes out I will for sure apply for it. To see a little more information about go to the following website!

More Technology that Hates ME!

I just can't win, there is never a week where technology gives me a break. This week my computer started messing up big time! My screen keeps having these white lines and then completely going white. I have done a little research and my guess would have to be the Video Card in my computer. I have no idea what that is but I know it also makes a weird loud noise. That also can't be a good idea.

This is all I know about the card and my problem right now... but I am sending my computer home weekend and maybe I can have it fixed soon. Also hopefully I won't have to spend lots of money on this issue. If anyone knows anything about this please let me know and information you have! Thanks!

Contacts w Circuits

Well, I was thinking of my groups emerging technology... and its really neat! Contacts that have a circuit in them is extremely neat. Putting a GPS unit into a contact is impressive. I know they have only tested this project on rabbits but this is how technology continues into on the market. It is impressive with where we are headed in todays world.

The picture to the left is a picture of this contact in a rabbits eye, there seemed to be lil problems with eye from the contacts... seems like an amazing new way to get around and live ones life!

Motion Sensors are EVERYWHERE!!!

I can't believe it, I haven't had hardly any technology problems for awhile now! I am happy about it! But... I saw this short show on how everything in this bathroom was done by a sensor. The sink, and towels are normal to be on a sensor these days, but the doors were sensor, the soap, the flush, the lights, and the trash can! it was crazy to watch all of these things work off a sensor! I was so impressed with the direction that technology is going. This is the most hygienic restroom I have ever seen! I wish I could use this kind of a restroom! I would feel so clean! haha its an impressive step that the society is taking.

http://www.sav-elec.com/motion.htm
That website talks about different kinds of sensors and how they help save electricity as well. Motion Sensors are very environmentally friends to.
The picture is of a motion picture sink. It is amazing turning everything in to a motion sensor!

Geocaching

Okay so today we did geocaching, it was kinda fun. Seemed pretty simple. It took us a few minutes to figure out the device and once we did that we were at our clue in about 5 minutes. Our group used cameras, iflip and walkie talkies. However the walkie talkies lost range but it was still fun to jump back into the era when I was 10 years old! We were pretty excited when we found our clue, but we also found out the answer to our clue. I was so proud of us! haha

Cell Phones and Bags of Rice

For once I had a bad experience that turned out okay!

There was a glass of water on my bedside table and of course I spilled the WHOLE thing on my cell phone and my boyfriends phone. My phone was fine... his phone... only button that worked was the end call/on/off button.... I felt awful!!!

So we did some research online after we continued to dry it off over and over! Then we found the bag of uncooked rice with the cell phone in it will pull out all the water from the phone... I was a little ify to stick his phone in a bag a rice, (which lucky me, I had rice!)

But the next morning the phone worked fine! No problems and no worries! I'm not sure if it was the praying or the bag of rice but either way for once I LOVE TECHNOLOGY!!

THANK YOU RICE BAG!!!

Computer Problems with some Walkie Talkie fun

I wake up on my lovely Sunday morning and out of nowhere, my laptop adapter decided it would no longer work.

It was such a frustrating day! I went to Best Buy to have it tested. It was no longer any good. They priced a new for me it was over 100 dollars! I thought it was crazy! I couldn't believe it. Some how I got lucky and remember I had my old adapter from my old Sony Vio that had water damage to it and was never able to be revived! I met my mom today to get the adapter from the old computer and it worked! THANKS WATER DAMAGED COMPUTER! :-)

But some fun news! I found some old Walkie Talkies that I got when I was probably 10 years old. My roommate and myself were running around everywhere using them. From my room to her room. It was a blast. My plastic walkie talkies were so entertaining. It just makes me remember how simple technology used to be. Now your cell phone can be a walkie talkie! It is just so crazy! If you have some you haven't played with in awhile, you should bring them out for a little bit! Our next experience with them is to see what our distance is with them! It is gonna be another fun night! :-)

Shopping Online- FRUSTRATING!

Okay, so I do not have any positive news today either. I ordered my Halloween costume online last week and two days later someone had stolen my card number and racked up hundreds of dollars on it. And the person got it from online! I had to call cancel my card get all those charges dropped. Settled right... NO I got my new card today in the mail. Called the number on the card to get it activated and i had to put in the 16 digit number, which I had to do 6 yes 6 times and it did not work once.... finally it took me someone on the phone. This was just as bad as the rest of the experience. The lady was asking my questions from years ago, as in what was my last purchase with this account and the price which was OVER a week ago so I had to get online and find that out then they asked.... what year and month did I start my chase account that was years ago... I couldn't tell her which month but I could the year and she would not activate my card. She was getting so frustrated with me! HOW DO YOU THINK I FELT!!!!! This was such a hassel and a pain... so I just hung up because she was so rude. I took my card to an ATM and hoped for the best and it worked no problem. She did not activate my card but when I went to the ATM I walked in and talked to the bank and they told me no it was not activated but all I had to do was go to the ATM and withdrawal money!

Would that have been so difficult for that lady to say! This was ridiculous... all of this happened because I did online shopping.... How Frustrating...

EMERGING TECHNOLOGY--- not my cup of tea

For this class we have to "blog" and in the nicest way I can put it, I don't even understand the point of blogging. It seems to me that it is used to stalk people and their day to day life. I went over some of my classmates blogs, and just did not understand why people would read other peoples blogs. I am starting to feel like an 80 year old women in this generation and I'm only 21.

I HATE NEW TECHNOLOGY! It is so hard for me to learn how to use all the new gadgets. For instance not only do I have to learn how to blog for this class, I have to learn how to TWEET for my HIST 104 class.... I think this is ridiculous. First of all this class is about European History from the 1400s... I am almost positive Tweeter did not exist back then.

I enjoy the technology I grew up with computers, simple cell phones and video games like nintendo. However, I tried to play Halo.... the remote VIBRATES!!! Scared me to death! I had never owned an IPOD until last November when I received the ITouch 2nd generation from my boyfriend for my birthday. He is a technology major and LOVES new technology. Anyways I have had this for just under a year and all I use it for is to play games when I am in the car on long car trips. Also I just bought my new labtop(not by choice) last Aug. and apparently I have been told there are many features on it I do not use!

I guess technology affects me almost everyday and I think it would be so much easier and more useful if what technology had to offer was more useful. I lose my remote to my TV every day... But I dont see anyone putting an alarm on my remote for me so I can find it... that would be good technology to me...

maybe by the time I write next... There will have been a POSITIVE technology experince...

Some good news: COLTS WON!!!! GO BLUE!!!
